2024 TACONIC SPORT & RACQUET (TSR) TENNIS CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
What is the TSR Club Championship?
The TSR Tennis Club Championship is an in-house tournament for Taconic Sport & Racquet adult members of all levels. All matches are set up by members, with other members. The tournament bracket is posted online, and shows all matches each player is assigned to play.
Who should join the Club Championship?
We encourage TSR adult members of all levels to join this event (over the age of 16). It’s a great way to meet new people and feel the thrill of competition (and have real match practice). Choose singles or doubles play, or both!
How much does it cost to play in the Club Championship?
The Taconic Sport & Racquet Club Championship is free to members. All matches should be played on the TSR outdoor courts. However, in the case of bad weather, if an indoor court is available, the match can move indoors at no charge. In order to avoid being charged for an indoor court, the front desk MUST be made aware that a Club Championship match is being played.
How do I sign up for the Club Championship?
All registrations for the Club Championships are done via the registration FORM. Please do not send an email, call the front desk, or tell Lindsay or Andria in person that you’d like to register. All registrations must be submitted through the registration FORM. The registration deadline is Friday, June 7th. No registrations will be accepted after this date. The tournament bracket will be published and available to begin match play on Thursday, June 13th.
How many matches will I play?
This is a very important consideration!! The design of play is ROUND ROBIN. For EACH division a player registers, they could be assigned 2 to 3 matches in the first round and up to 3 additional matches in playoffs for a total of up to 6 matches per division. Please take the time commitment into consideration when choosing how many divisions to join. Each round of play will have a deadline to complete matches. Please keep in mind that some players/opponents only have weekend availability, some only evening availability, etc. Scheduling and completing matches on time is a very important consideration. If you have multiple trips planned for July and August, please take that into consideration when registering.
What happens if my opponent(s) and I cannot find a day/time to play?
All matches in the Club Championship are set up directly by players with their opponents. Contact information will be shared. It is the responsibility of players to be responsive to communication, and have considerable availability to play all matches. Failure to do so may result in a player’s removal from the tournament. Taconic Sport & Racquet Management will not engage in any issues pertaining to scheduling of matches.
How do I report my scores after play?
The match winner is responsible for reporting the match score. All scores are to be reported using this FORM. In previous years, we asked that scores be sent via email. This year, all scores will be reported using this FORM. Please do not email, tell the front desk, or tell Lindsay/Andria in person your scores. The only method to report scores is this FORM.
When is FINALS scheduled?
The Club Championships will culminate in a Club Championship Final. The final will determine the Club Champion in every division. The Club Champion final is scheduled for Saturday, August 24. All players are expected to be available for the entire day and evening on Saturday, August 24th. Please note, this date is different from years past! This date is rain or shine. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, matches will be played indoors. If a player registers for multiple divisions and makes it to the finals for multiple divisions, that player will play all finals matches on August 24th.
What if I am unavailable on August 24th, the date of the finals?
Players can still register for and play in the Club Championship if they are not available for the finals. However, if a player makes it to the finals and is unavailable to play on August 24th, then the player/team will forfeit and the spot will go to the next player/team in line.
Other important details:
-All matches must be played on premises at Taconic Sport & Racquet.
-All players registered for the Club Championships agree to allow Taconic Sport & Racquet to share contact information, email and cell phone, with opponents in order to schedule matches.
-Both players/teams must bring an unopened can of balls, the winner gets the unopened can for the next round.
-Scoring follows USTA guidelines with best of three sets. A 7-point tie break at 6-6. The 3rd set is a 10-point tie break.
